The latest version of Adobe Reader has enabled our online forms, once completed, to be to be saved on your PC as a PDF file. This means the completed form can be emailed as an attachment and opened in Adobe Reader by the recipient.

Challengers (Div III) won 5 hot shots; Pearls and Hinds (Div I) each won 4; Penguins, Squirrels (Div II) and Abbots (Div III) 3 each.

Scanned Scorecards

Message from League Secretary,

I have started to receive the scanned scorecards and one or two have printed out a little faint.

Can you please ensure that whoever completes the scorecard for your team writes clearly and uses a distinctive pen. Using black ink will produce better scan results and more legible prints.

Please check the quality of the scan, particularly the final scores before sending, as if I am unable to read the cards clearly I will have to request cards are sent to me 1st class.

Can you please pass this message on to the person who completes the card and to the skips of each team.

Also I would like to remind clubs that I am no longer printing out Hot Shots but will still need them indicated for our records.

On request, I can email a template to any Club Secretary who would like to print out the certificates for their particular club.

League Secretaries Guidelines For Scorers

A new season probably means we have some new teams, skips and scorers.
This may explain why, so far this season, I have received a fair few cards with various errors.
Normally number 2 should score, but if there are any problems another nominated team member can complete the scorecard.
I have put together some guidelines to help.

GENTLE REMINDER TO ALL NEW SKIPS AND SCORERS

PLEASE ENSURE THAT

v the team who is playing at home put their scores in the left hand column

v the team playing away, put their score in the right hand column

v the scores are recorded below the correct team!

v all 15 ends are recorded

v hot shots and tied ends are indicated

v When Skips sign that the SCORES AGREE , they also check that the scores are recorded in the CORRECT COLUMNS and any discrepancies indicated

v cards should be filled in with ink.

v names should be written in full, initials are not acceptable

v where a club has two teams, the team and not the club is entered at the top

v complete the bottom where it is indicated which Club has sent in the card

v all players are registered to play in the league.

v a cheque £3.00 payable to EKSMBA should be sent with the card for new registrations

v All score cards reach the League Secretary within 5 working days

For the 2012-2013 Season, score cards can be scanned and submitted as email attachments. However, if there is any any disagreement or disputed the actual score card will be required by first class post.

Gentle Reminder Poster

It is taken as read that all league games are played in good spirit and fairness: however, sometimes we get carried away and forget some of the rules: long/lawn bowls and the ESMBA rules may differ so here is a gentle reminder of some EKSMBA rules so we can avoid some of the most common errors:

The visiting team will be given the choice whether to go first or second. It is not permissible to “give the jack away” at any other time during the match

No player should follow their woods up across the nearest dead-line

When marking woods only spray chalks can be used.

Woods should not be touched or handled once at the head (unless removing chalk marks from non-touchers)

Only one player shall be allowed on the mat at the head at any one time; and only when their side is in possession of the rink mat.

Verbal and visual warning must be given and acknowledged before playing weighted shots

Foot Faults should be called by those at the delivery end i.e. if any part of the standing foot is outside the delivery mat at the time of delivery on the fender, overlapping the edge of the mat or if any part of the leading foot touches the delivery line.

The ‘Foot Faults‘ rule does not necessarily apply to disabled bowlers. For guidance see Section 43 Bowlers with Bowling Difficulties and Appendix 1 of the Constitution and Rules.

If Leads and Twos change, communication to the skip must come from the new number Two

A Skip may not stall at the head to watch their opponent bowl. If either skip visits the head before both skips have played their first bowl their next bowl will be stopped and removed from the mat. (A skip can only visit the head when it is their turn)

30 seconds should elapse, if requested, when the last bowl of an end comes to rest. No player should walk on the live area this time

Neither jack nor bowls should be moved until both sides agree the result. The player conceding the shot(s) should remove these bowls from the rink mat

Changing woods after Roll Up but before game starts is permissible

Neither by word or act shall spectators disturb or advise players

It is recommended that all players should take time to read/re-read the rule book

Newspapers: Results and Reports

Our League Secretary in a bid to get more recognition for our sport and the Association has contacted the Kent Regional Newspapers in East Kent. She has provided our results tables and some reports.

Not having details of individual matches Clubs are encouraged to send in their own reports in support of her efforts using the following contacts for your area.
