Oyster Cup Triples Competition
The Oyster Cup Triples Competition took place at Hoverspeed Social Club on Sunday 21st March. It was played in the usual format with four round-robin groups, the group winners going through to the semi-finals. Again this year, the round-robin matches were of a high standard with only one club winning all their matches. Two of the groups were decided on shots scored.
In the semi-finals, Preston played Minster and Hoverspeed played Swalecliffe. Minster played strongly, winning by 14 shots to 2. The other match was a very close affair but Swalecliffe managed to gain a three point advantage at the penultimate end. Hoverspeed were holding two shots with one wood to go. Geoff managed to promote one wood and run through with his own giving them the win by one shot.
The final was also a close game again coming down to the last wood. This time though, Geoff was trying for shot but hit the jack a little heavy sending it off the mat. This gave away a penalty of two shots, giving the trophy to Minster by one shot.
