For the 2007-2008 season, Whitstable are hoping to run 3 Winter League Teams:
Oysters, Pearls & Winkles
In House Competition Winners 2007
Ladies Singles Four Wood Not Held
Mens Singles Four Wood Colin Hadler
Club Open Singles Three Wood Eileen Churchley
Club Open Pairs Barbara & Colin Hadler
our AGM was held on Friday 27th April 2007
Our retiring Captain Chris Lane was congratulated for his three years service and for his success
in probably the Club and its members most successful season so far.
We began with Eileen & Eddie Churchley and skip Chris Lane himself winning the Arca Mixed Triples for the first time
.
In December 2006 Eight members visited Warners Lakeside and entered the Pairs Competition
where Eileen & Eddie Churchley managed to win this.
One team Eileen Churchley, Pat Lane, Eddie Churchley & Chris Lane Lost the Fours Final narrowly.
At Easter Eight members entered the THL group Triples and Pairs weekend.
Something we have been doing now for several years.
In the main Triples competition three families have always split and for the second time in three years
both met in the semi final with Barbara Hadler, Eddie Churchley & Chris Lane just defeating
Eileen Churchley, Pat Lane & Colin Hadler before going on at last to win the Triples Title.
It was particularly pleasing as they had previously lost the final last year the semi final the year before
and were sent packing in the quarter final the year before that.
The weekend was further successful in so far as Eileen & Eddie won the Main pairs Competition
as well, after an extra most exciting end for those watching.
Back home with the final Pearls 1st Division match against Arca requiring at least four points home and away
we managed just five points but sufficient to ensure winning the First Division title for the 4th time in seven years.
Eileen & Eddie Churchley and Mick Foreman on Mat 2 with Dusty Miller, Chris Lane and Peter Sparrow on Mat 1
Our Winkles Team in Division Three were pipped at the post.
Our final opponents Canterbury Choughs winning their home mat on the last wood precluded a finish in first place.
Our congratulations to Ash Angels where we enjoyed a close fought match before Canterbury Choughs.
Team Captain Paul Launchbury with Adrian Shoesmith, Brian Berry and Jim Carey on Mat 2
ably backed up a particularly successful campaign by Barbara Hadler, Diana Thompson and Colin Hadler on Mat 1.
None the less the Winkles managed automatic Promotion and must be congratulated.
Our Oysters 2nd Division team admittedly struggled at first with an injury keeping Tony Luckett out for nearly half a season
and some illness where they lost Liz Clayson, together with the remaining members
they all fought hard and managed to finish in a creditable position
. Our thanks to Eileen Miller, Pat Lane, Alan Keen, Debbie Lane, Karen Beeforth
and well done to our Team Captain Barbara Foreman for holding it all together
Eileen Churchley was congratulated in being the first Lady to win the
Open Maurice Sutcliffe Singles beating three of the top men in doing so.
We enjoy our summer break but should anyone wish to play a friendly please get in touch.
Our Club members thanks to this seasons Committee for there hard work on our behalf.
Finally we sincerely hope there are some more volunteers to help run our Association
otherwise this will all be of no use as we will cease to be.
